Waiting On Wednesday (354) One-Eyed Royals (Seven of Spades #4) by Cordelia Kingsbridge

Expected publication: September 10, 2018 by Riptide Publishing

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, previously hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

(Spoiler Alert! The following blurb contains spoilers for Cash Plays, book three of Seven of Spades.)

Shattered by their devastating breakup, Detective Levi Abrams and PI Dominic Russo find themselves at war right when they need each other most. While Dominic is trapped in a vicious cycle of addiction, Levi despairs of ever catching the Seven of Spades. The ruthless vigilante’s body count continues to climb, and it’s all Levi can do to keep up with the carnage.

When Levi’s and Dominic’s paths keep crossing in the investigation of a kidnapping ring with a taste for mutilation, it feels like history repeating itself. Thrown together by fate once again, they reluctantly join forces in their hunt for the mastermind behind the abductions.

But the Seven of Spades hates sharing the spotlight, and they have an ace in the hole: a new batch of victims with a special connection to Levi. Their murders send shockwaves through Las Vegas and change the rules of the game forever.

The Seven of Spades has upped the ante. If Levi and Dominic don’t play their cards right, they’ll end up losing everything.

Oh look. A book series that I am actually reading as it is released. I'm dying over here!!!! Book 3 in this series just about did me in, so I know I'll have to prepare myself for the shit that goes down in this book. Sigh. It won't be pretty.

Review: Joy by C.S. Poe

Published April 5th 2017 by Dreamspinner Press
Genre: M/M, Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Down on his luck is Gideon Joy’s default state. He doesn’t know why he expected anything different on his cross-country trip, but not surprisingly, the hits keep coming—literally this time. Gideon strikes a moose with his car in New Hampshire, not only totaling his own vehicle, but damaging one belonging to local construction worker Silas Bright. He has no choice but to stay in Lancaster and take a job that’ll pay for the repairs. And in a town so small, Gideon’s always running into Silas. What starts as annoyance between them soon blooms into something much more romantic. But when Gideon’s notorious bad luck rears its head yet again, how many disastrous dates will Silas be willing to weather before realizing Gideon’s not worth it?

Despite Gideon’s desire to remain in the quaint community that has accepted him as one of their own, past fears of inadequacy threaten the very joy he left Los Angeles to discover. If he’s to find a happily ever after with Silas, Gideon must learn that sometimes it’s okay to not be the best. And true happiness might be waiting in a small town nestled among the great White Mountains.

There wasn't anything bad about this book, but I found it to be just okay. I though the story really suffered due to the short length. I get that it's a novella, but this had so much potential that was never reached. It IS a cute story, and I really liked the characters and setting. There's really no conflict, so the emotional level is pretty low. And with no sex between the MCs, the story was a little flat. I think my favorite thing about this was the cover (which I love!)

Review: Whiskey Business by Avon Gale

Published December 28th 2016 by Dreamspinner Press
Genre: M/M, Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Ryder Waites will do anything to keep the tiny town of Gallows Grove, Kentucky, from vanishing off the map—even sell his family’s whiskey recipe to Bluegrass Bourbon in Lexington. Hopeful that the larger company can provide necessary improvements to the distillery, Ryder’s ultimate goal is to get Gallows Grove on the Bourbon Trail… and bring in much-needed tourism revenue. But to keep producing Hanged Man Bourbon in Gallows Grove, he’ll have to convince company liaison, unbearably stuffy and seriously hot Adam Keller, that he's worth the investment.

Adam comes from an old-money family, but he’s determined to make his own way in the world. When he’s sent to Gallows Grove, he questions the life choices that led him to a rented room in a funeral home, in a town full of macabre-themed businesses. And he doesn’t know what to make of Ryder, the descendant of bootleggers who’s on a mission to save his strange town from extinction. When Adam and Ryder put aside their initial mistrust, the results are as smooth as good whiskey. But after Adam’s assignment ends, he’ll have to decide if small-town life and a future with Ryder is to his tastes.

Ah, what a super cute and fun book! Both MCs were likable, the romance wasn't insta-love, and I enjoyed the small town setting.

So yeah, two hot guys, lots of sex, and some really bad puns made this a very entertaining read. The book was only 100 pages, so the story is obviously not long enough to get super deep and meaningful, but it was close to perfect for a novella.

LIAR by Stephanie St. Klaire
AVAILABLE NOW

Synopsis:

Fake it until you make it. That was the mantra Cori Dash chanted as she chased a big city dream. The more you tell people you’re on top of the world, the more they believe it – just like they believed the embellished image she sold them with her knock off designer facade. It wasn’t lying if the truth stood somewhere in the middle – and she didn’t get caught.

Dominic Blackthorne owned half of that big city…and a reputation. Rather than dispel rumors or show the world the real Nick, he let his own fake image run free. Until Cori Dash – the only person who told him exactly how it was, even if it stung.

When Cori is faced with her ex-fiance, now engaged to her ex-best friend, it’s game on. In her boldest move yet, she concocts her biggest lie to date by introducing the first handsome stranger that walks by as her new fiancĂ©. Happy to play the part, Nick is already planning the fake wedding of her dreams.

You know what they say about lying – the truth always comes out – and it hurts. Especially when Cori finds out she isn’t the biggest Liar in this game, and she’s been out played.

When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found with a plate full of taco’s, a side of bean dip, and probably some gummy bears while being a little bit hippy and a lot bit busy mom’ing and wife’ing.

When she’s not tossing around gritty crime show inspired serial killers and diabolical bad guys, she likes to make people pee their pants a little with a good romcom. Sometimes, her worlds collide, and she writes really funny stuff right before she kills people off on the pages! She loves murder and mayhem as much as a good laugh and HEA! That’s why she’s a die-hard Hallmark junky but loves her gritty crime shows – balance!

Stephanie has always been a story teller, with the gift of “gab”, and a life-long goal to be a writer. Unfortunate circumstances with her health, finally afforded her the time to do so. Irony at its best, she began writing her first novel at an adverse time, to escape her circumstance and explore the stories in her imagination for relief. She is happy to share those stories with her readers, and bring a little fun, entertainment, and of course smexy characters to the pages.

Waiting On Wednesday (353) In Another Time by Caroline Leech

Expected publication: August 28th 2018 by HarperTeen

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, previously hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Love is worth the fight

It’s 1942, and Maisie McCall is in the Scottish Highlands doing her bit for the war effort as a Women’s Timber Corps lumberjill. Maisie relishes her newfound independence and her growing friendships—especially with the enigmatic John Lindsay.

As Maisie and John work side-by-side felling trees, Maisie can’t help but feel like their friendship has the spark of something more to it. And yet every time she gets close to him, John pulls away. It’s not until Maisie rescues John from a terrible logging accident that he begins to open up to her about the truth of his past, and the pain he’s been hiding.

Suddenly everything is more complicated than Maisie expected. And as she helps John untangle his shattered history, she must decide if she’s willing to risk her heart to help heal his. But in a world devastated by war, love might be the only thing left that can begin to heal what’s broken.

I have strayed really (really!) far from my YA blogger beginnings, but I still like to get my hands on some really good YA at times. I enjoyed reading this author's previous book, Wait for Me, so I thought I would give this a go. It's young adult AND historical, so double whammy out of my current comfort zone. I'll let you know how I like it!

Waiting On Wednesday (352) A Few Good Fish (Fish Out of Water #3) by Amy Lane

Expected publication: August 28th 2018 by Dreamspinner Press

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, previously hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

A tomcat, a psychopath, and a psychic walk into the desert to rescue the men they love…. Can everybody make it out with their skin intact?

PI Jackson Rivers and Defense Attorney Ellery Cramer have barely recovered from last November, when stopping a serial killer nearly destroyed Jackson in both body and spirit.

But their previous investigation poked a new danger with a stick, forcing Jackson and Ellery to leave town so they can meet the snake in its den.

Jackson Rivers grew up with the mean streets as a classroom and he learned a long time ago not to give a damn about his own life. But he gets a whole new education when the enemy takes Ellery. The man who pulled his shattered pieces from darkness and stitched them back together again is in trouble, and Jackson’s only chance to save him rests in the hands of fragile allies he barely knows.

It’s going to take a little bit of luck to get these Few Good Fish out alive!

This is another highly anticipated book for me, especially after I enjoyed the first 2 books in this series so much. I can't wait to read it. I just hope it lives up to my expectations!

Review: Three's Company by N.R. Walker

Published March 20th 2018 by BlueHeart Press (first published October 27th 2012)
Genre: M/M, Contemporary, Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

After being publicly outed and his restaurant business in tatters, instead of vacationing with his lover, Wilson Curtis goes to Key West alone. He meets Simon and Adam and is soon invited into their bed for some holiday fun.

But once isn't enough, and the offer is extended for the remainder of his stay. As they get to know each other, in and out of the bedroom, sparks fly and ten days is all it takes to change their lives.

When it comes time for Wil to leave, with outside tensions closing in and time running out, tempers flare and emotions fray. Beneath the misunderstandings and lack of communication, is the realization these three men aren't ready to say goodbye.

I really wasn't sure what to expect going into this. I was just looking for something a little different, and this was it. Three likable characters, lots of sex, and really low angst. Everything conveniently worked out for these guys, but my only real complaint was the story had more telling than showing. So overall, this was good enough to spend a few hours reading.

My Rating: 3.5 Stars

Waiting On Wednesday (351) Double or Nothing by Cari Z. and L.A. Witt

Expected publication: August 7th 2018

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, previously hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Rich Cody joined the U.S. Marshals to hunt down bad guys, not babysit witnesses. Orders are orders, though, and now he’s protecting a hacker with ties to the Albanian and Sicilian mobs. It’s just another exciting day in WITSEC.

Leotrim Nicolosi was born into a world of crime and bloodshed. When that bloodshed hits too close to home, taking down Leo’s boyfriend—the son of a notorious mob boss—Leo is determined to destroy the Grimaldi family. He’s got evidence that will send every last Grimaldi to prison, he’s got the family’s wealth in an electronic chokehold, and he’s got a vendetta that can only be settled with the blood of the man who killed his lover.

When a routine transfer to a safehouse goes horribly wrong, Rich and Leo narrowly escape with their lives. With the Marshals compromised and Leo being framed for murder, he and Rich are on the run from criminals and law enforcement alike. They have no one to trust except each other, and nowhere to go that their enemies can’t reach.

And the only way out might mean making a deal with the Devil.

I adored the Bad Behavior Series by these 2 authors, so I'm hoping that I like this book just as much.

July 2018 Recap and August 2018 TBR

I can't believe that it's August already! I didn't realize how little I read last month until I started this list. Crazy!

I keep adding to my tbr, knowing that I'm never going to get around to reading every book on there. I try to choose wisely, but I still get some klunkers, and I have such a hard time DNFing!

I obviously love Josh Lanyon, as you can see by my rereading of the first 3 books in the series before book #4 was released. And it took me a long while to get up the gumption to read Cash Plays because I knew it was going to rip my heart out. It made me so sad! Imperial Stout was a great start to a spin off series.

Read in July 2018

Truth and Consequences (The Sixth Sense #3) by Sarah Madison
All That Glitters by Kate Sherwood
Other People's Weddings (Petit Morts #4) by Josh Lanyon

Imperial Stout (Trouble Brewing #1) by Layla Reyne
Motel. Pool. by Kim Fielding

Somebody Killed His Editor (Holmes & Moriarity #1) by Josh Lanyon
All She Wrote (Holmes & Moriarity #2) by Josh Lanyon
The Boy with the Painful Tattoo (Holmes & Moriarity #3) by Josh Lanyon

In Other Words...Murder (Holmes & Moriarity #4) by Josh Lanyon
Cash Plays (Seven of Spades #3) by Cordelia Kingsbridge

August 2018 TBR:

Risk Taker (Mixed Messages #3) by Lily Morton
Vanilla Clouds by Roe Horvat
Double or Nothing by Cari Z. and L.A. Witt

Fish Out of Water (Fish Out of Water #1) by Amy Lane
Red Fish, Dead Fish (Fish Out of Water #2) by Amy Lane
A Few Good Fish (Fish Out of Water #3) by Amy Lane

A Few Good Fish comes out later this month, so I'm doing a reread of the first 2 books in the series.

Waiting On Wednesday (350) The Other Side of Lost by Jessi Kirby

Expected publication: August 7th 2018 by HarperTeen

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, previously hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Girl Online meets Wild in this emotionally charged story of girl who takes to the wilderness to rediscover herself and escape the superficial persona she created on social media.

Mari Turner’s life is perfect. That is, at least to her thousands of followers who have helped her become an internet starlet. But when she breaks down and posts a video confessing she’s been living a lie—that she isn’t the happy, in-love, inspirational online personality she’s been trying so hard to portray—it goes viral and she receives major backlash. To get away from it all, she makes an impulsive decision: to hike the entire John Muir trail. Mari and her late cousin, Bri, were supposed to do it together, to celebrate their shared eighteenth birthday. But that was before Mari got so wrapped up in her online world that she shut anyone out who questioned its worth—like Bri.

With Bri’s boots and trail diary, a heart full of regret, and a group of strangers that she meets along the way, Mari tries to navigate the difficult terrain of the hike. But the true challenge lies within, as she searches for the way back to the girl she fears may be too lost to find: herself.

I've read a few of this author's previous books and enjoyed them, so I added this to my tbr. I'm already having my doubts as to the believability of this story, mostly because I'm an adult and I would never let my kids go off and do something like this. So, we'll see.
