Waiting On Wednesday (541) The Spooky Life (The Spectral Files #4) by S.E. Harmon

Expected publication: April 18, 2022
Genre: M/M, Paranormal, Romance

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings
that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.
(WoW was previously hosted by Breaking The Spine.)

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Rain Christiansen isn’t sure he’ll ever fully understand the supernatural. But he’s finally finding his groove as a reluctant medium and cold-case detective. That’s not to say everything is going smoothly—there’s a wedding in the works, after all. He’s finally taking that enormous step with fellow detective, Daniel McKenna, and he couldn’t be happier…about the marriage. Not so much the wedding. The hoopla is enough to make him wish for a quick flight to Vegas and an Elvis officiant.

At least work is keeping Rain and the PTU plenty busy. Their latest case involves Hannah Caldwell, a silent ghost who can’t—or won’t—speak. She still manages to request that they find her dear friend, Cherry Parker, so that she can say goodbye. Piece of cake. Finding people is pretty high on the list of things that Rain does best.

But when it comes to ghosts, nothing is ever quite what it seems. Before long, his simple missing person’s case takes a dark and twisted turn. And Rain realizes he’s been so busy trying to protect Danny that he forgot to protect himself.

If he doesn’t turn things around—and quickly—his spooky life might be cut short for good.

Yay!! Ghosties!! The first book in this series is one of my favorite books ever. (My only complaint with books 2 and 3 is that Rain went from "I see and hear ghosts" to having full on 'supernatural' abilities seemingly out of the blue. He hid the fact that he could hear ghosts all his life, so these other stronger abilities just now coming to light seem... convenient to the story.) I'm just hoping this book gets back to it's ghost roots, and stops trying to add more and more to Rain's skills.

Waiting On Wednesday (540) Taken by Storm (The Off Season #2) by K.M. Neuhold

Expected publication: April 8, 2022 by K.M. Neuhold
Genre: M/M, Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Chef Storm is moody, antisocial...and he just asked me to be his fake boyfriend.

Most people on the island avoid the hot-tempered chef, but he doesn't scare me. Sure, he's prickly, but I've also caught him feeding a stray cat, so I know there's more to him than the sky-high, barbed-wire fence he's built around himself.

When Storm's ex-husband shows up unexpectedly during the off-season and refuses to go home, pretending to be Storm’s boyfriend is apparently my new job.

Faking it with my grumpy boss should not be this much fun, especially since the last thing I need is to make a fool of myself by falling for anyone else on the island.

Is there anything more exciting than being swept up in a storm? Maybe taming one…

Well, the first book in this series is getting bad reviews, so I've been reluctant to pick it up. I have read a few of this author's other books and I liked them, so I don't know what went wrong with this series. I'll have to read this and see what I think.

Waiting On Wednesday (539) Tough Luck (A-List Security #1) by Annabeth Albert

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings
that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.
(WoW was previously hosted by Breaking The Spine.)

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Expected publication: March 24, 2022
Genre: M/M, Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

My best friend’s little brother needs a bodyguard. Now I’m the one in danger…

I’m a SEAL. Or rather, I was. Retired at the grand old age of thirty-eight, I’m at loose ends. My best friend wants me to join his security team. I’m not sure I’m bodyguard material, but he needs someone to protect his kid brother. How hard can spoiled brat duty be?

Somehow, I missed the part where former child star Danny Love went from dorky TV darling to all grown up and disturbingly attractive. All the gossip about his wild ways fails to mention that he’s trying hard to clean up his act. But now he’s got a stalker.

Hiding out together in a remote mountain cabin, alone, the temptation keeps building. I’m feeling things I never have before. Secrets I’ve kept even from myself bubble to the surface every time Danny looks my way with those puppy dog eyes.

At some point we’re going to have to return to Hollywood and our vastly different lives. Will Danny still want me around when he doesn’t need me for protection? Can I be brave enough to give him a reason to?

(Another book with a cover that I'm not fond of.) I recently finished reading a book by this author that was just okay. It was actually pretty dull and unremarkable. So I'm really hoping that this book has more substance! I need all the feels.

Waiting On Wednesday (538) The Inconvenient Love (Better With You #4) by Briar Prescott

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings

(WoW was previously hosted by Breaking The Spine.)

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Expected publication: March 14, 2022
Genre: M/M, Romance

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Max:
He's funny, smart, dorky... and all grown up. My best friend's little brother. He kissed me when he was nineteen and told me he loved me. I shut him down, telling him he was too young and didn’t know what he was saying. That damn kiss is coming back to haunt me now. The softness of his lips and the hopeful look in his eyes — I remember it all too clearly, and it’s getting almost impossible to tell myself I don’t want a repeat of that kiss...

Isac:
You can only make a complete ass of yourself in front of a guy so many times. Luckily for me, I'm not the same pathetic, starry-eyed kid anymore. Max and I are better off as friends. Now, if only I could figure out why he's looking at me so intently. And why he kissed me. And why we're suddenly doing all sorts of other things friends don't generally do...

I really liked the first 3 books in this series. They were all sorta cute and heartwarming stories. Nothing too overly dramatic or angsty. Just really nice. Who can't use a bit of nice now and then?

This is this author's first foray into contemporary, so I don't know what to expect. The only books of hers that I have read previously were paranormal, so I hope I like this!
