Synopsis:

Legacies were made to be rewritten.

Assassin Hawes Madigan wants to do right--by his family, his organization, his city, and the man he's falling for, ATF agent Christopher Perri. But Hawes's rules are being challenged by someone willing to kill for the old ways. To save his soul and his empire, Hawes must make an impossible decision: fight from the outside or bend the knee to win back his throne from within.

Chris is used to being the inside man, the one undercover. Now, he's on the outside marshaling forces in support of the man and the ring of assassins he was supposed to take down. His mission shifted when he found something that's been missing for ten long years--a home, with Hawes.

As Hawes and Chris make a dangerous play for control, the lines between allies and traitors blur. Trusting the wrong person could destroy the legacy Hawes envisions for the Madigans. But not trusting anyone, or each other, could mean lights out on their love and lives forever.

The King and King Slayer fight together in this thrilling conclusion to the Fog City Trilogy!

“Is that enough for you?” His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard.

Chris soothed it with his thumb. “You’re enough for me.”

“Even after the hell my family has put you through, is still putting—”

Chris silenced the rest of his words and the self-recriminations bubbling up from the floor of Hawes’s emotions. Showing him instead what this had become about for him. The lips under his, the tongue sliding against his own, the sharp, stubbled jaw beneath his palms, and the tight, hard body between his and the window.

The heart beating in time with his.

Breaking the kiss, Chris rested his forehead against Hawes’s, the other man’s face in his hands. “You made me feel at home for the first time since Ro died.”

“Dante.”

Chris smiled so wide, it hurt his face. “And then there’s that.”

“I don’t understand how, after what I did.”

“You say it like you’re lucky, like you think you still don’t deserve it.” Chris traced his thumbs through the wetness under Hawes’s eyes. Through the evidence of the assassin’s soul. “You do, baby. You make your family better, this city better, me better. And I want to make a home here, with you.”

“You hardly know me. I’ve lied—”

“So have I.” He hadn’t denied it to Hawes’s operatives, and he wouldn’t deny it to the man himself. But it wasn’t the entire story. “We’ve both lied, but the things that mattered were true.”

New Release: Under Pressure (Love and Football #1) by Lauren Ashley

Published October 8th 2019
Genre: M/M, Sports, Romance
Warnings: Brief mentions of religious upbringing, unsupportive parents,
past sibling death from car accident.

Synopsis:

Rookie quarterback, Drew Carmichael, is under pressure like never before.

When Drew abruptly and unexpectedly comes out of the closet, his life is upended. The media is hounding him. Fans and haters are scrutinizing him nonstop. Worst of all, team management is wary of him, unsure if he’s worth all the hassle.

He’ll do anything to stay on his home state's NFL team, including pretending to be in a serious and committed relationship. The only problem is his fake boyfriend is Scott Hunter-the irresistible country music star and his secret teenage crush.

Scott Hunter is used to being under pressure. He’s dealt with it his whole life, handling it all with grace and an unwavering smile on his face.

When his manager presents him with the long-awaited opportunity to come out of the closet, he jumps on it, no questions asked. Pretending to be Drew Carmichael’s boyfriend should be easy. Simple. Fun.

He never expected or wanted to start caring about the golden boy of football. That’s definitely not part of the plan. Neither is fooling around with him on a football field...

Touchdown.

Chapter One – Drew

I’m going to kill Cara and Caitlin, my little twin sisters, for roping me into this mess.

Volunteer for the Boy Toy Charity Date Auction, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. A night of no-strings-attached fun, they said. You know what they conveniently didn’t say? That there was a very real possibility that my long-term stalker could outbid everyone and buy me for the fucking night.

Despite my brash and menacing persona as a football player, I’m a pretty chill guy. As a middle child with three older brothers and three little sisters, being chill is practically an unwritten rule, necessary for survival.

Point is, I can deal with a lot.

Slathering my biceps and bare chest with oil? Sure, no problem. Letting myself be ogled like a piece of meat? Go right ahead, I have nothing to be ashamed of. I know I’m what most people consider to be a good-looking guy. But having to spend the night with Mary Alice Carter, having to wine and dine her? I’m not sure I can deal with that.

This is the last time I agree to do the twins a favor. But even as the words cross my mind, I know it’s a big fat lie. I might put up more of a resistance next time around, but I’ll still end up caving. All they have to do is set their puppy dog eyes on me. The twins and Hayley, the baby of our boisterous family, have my brothers and I wrapped around their little fingers.

“I’ll take him for ten thousand!” Mary Alice exclaims excitedly, her face already flushing with triumph.

The easy, charming, well-rehearsed smile on my face doesn’t falter one bit. Internally, however, I’m screaming.

I’ve known Mary Alice my whole life. She was the girl next door. Literally. Not only were our families neighbors, but we also grew up in the same circles, each born into powerful family dynasties. Hers in the entertainment industry, mine in politics and football. From what I can remember and from what I’ve seen on old home videos, she wasn’t so bad when we were little. There was a brief period of time when we were actually best friends. Sandbox partners in crime. It wasn’t until she got it in her head that we were “destined to be together and become a power couple” that things between us started going downhill.

Over the years, she’s pulled a lot of stunts. She’s repeatedly tried to squeeze her way into my friend groups, she practically harassed me all throughout high school, she followed me to college, and she even managed to hack into my Facebook account and change my relationship status to “In a Relationship with Mary Alice Carter.”

I’ve tried just about every way to let her down. Well, every way except for one. The truth.

“Going once…twice for ten thousand dollars.” Cara, who’s acting as the event’s auctioneer, pauses to scan the crowd. She’s well aware that this is my worst nightmare come true, although she doesn’t quite understand why. Nobody really, truly does.

“Eleven thousand!” another girl yells out from the crowd, giving me some glimmer of hope.

“Fifteen thousand!” Mary Alice immediately counters, clearly not willing to go down without a fight. One thing about her that’s never changed throughout the years is her determination. Once she sets her mind to something, there’s absolutely no stopping her.

Panic blooms in my chest. I shut my eyes, trying to tell myself that this isn’t the end of the world. I’ve dealt with a hell of a lot worse in my life. One night with Mary Alice isn’t going to kill me. But the panic only spreads, climbing up my throat, thick and powerful. It robs me of any ability to think clearly and rationally.

When I open my eyes, Cara is standing in front of me. Her clear blue eyes, same as my own, same as our mother’s, are filled with concern.

“DJ, are you okay?” she asks in a hushed whisper. The use of her childhood nickname for me brings a fleeting small smile to my face. It’s the first genuine one I’ve had all night.

“DJ?” Cara questions again, voice pitching high, her concern clearly going up a notch.

“I can’t do this anymore,” I hear myself saying in a faraway voice.

“Can’t do what anymore?” Cara asks, a frown marring her face.

I’m not even sure I myself know the answer to that question. All I know is that I feel like I’m suffocating. It feels like there’s a thousand-pound duffle bag of bricks resting on my shoulders, weighing me down. There’s a growing ache in my chest, a hollow emptiness that’s draining any and all ability to be happy.

I’m so tired of hiding, lying by omission, and trying to live up to everyone’s expectations of me.

“I’m gay.”

Two words. Five letters.

That’s apparently all it takes to feel like the goddamn weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders.

Before Cara can say anything, a flash of light goes off somewhere in the distance and I belatedly remember that I’m still on stage. In a room full of drunk, horny women. And Cara has a fucking microphone in her hands.

The secret that I’ve been living with for nearly a decade has just been broadcasted to far more people that I ever expected or wanted.

“Drew! Drew! Over here, Drew!”

“Did the Texas Bravehearts know you were gay before they selected you as number one overall in the NFL draft?”

“How do your teammates feel about this?”

I completely forgot about the fact that a select group of reporters are here tonight. I’d agreed, at my agent’s insistence, to an informal interview. It was supposed to be a fluff piece.

Fuck my fucking life.

Release Date: August 5, 2019
Subgenre: M/M Romantic Suspense
Warnings: Explicit sex including mild kink; explicit language; violence.

All buy links or pre-order links: Amazon

Synopsis:

Never fall for a mark. Mission fail.

Christopher Perri—a.k.a. Dante Perry—infiltrated the Madigan organization with one goal: vengeance for his murdered partner. Falling for the assassin at the head of the table wasn’t part of the plan, but Hawes Madigan is not the cold, untouchable Prince of Killers Chris expected. Everything about the newly crowned king is hot, and every inch of him eminently touchable…and off-limits once Chris’s cover is blown.

Exposure couldn’t come at a worse time. Hawes’s throne is threatened, and Chris suspects the same person who killed his partner is behind the coup. Working with Hawes benefits them both, but Chris’s employer has other ideas. Dismantling criminal organizations is what Chris does best, and his boss expects the King Slayer to deliver.

But Hawes is taking the Madigans in a new direction, one Chris can get behind, and the two men form a shaky alliance strengthened by the irresistible attraction between them...until Chris learns who killed his partner. Once he knows the truth, the King Slayer is unleashed, and Chris will stop at nothing to destroy those who betrayed him, including the king who stole his heart.

“I needed to show whoever is behind this grab for power that I know the game they’re playing, that I can play it too, and that I’m not afraid to do what it takes to win. That I’ll fight for what’s mine and for the way I do things.” Gone was the ice. His eyes were energized, brimming over with a king’s confidence. And heated, the look in them a magnified version of the fire Chris had seen in them yesterday at the BART station. Right after the takedown, right before the too brief kiss.

Chris lifted a hand, wanting desperately to touch, to wallow for a spell in the desire that was pushing away his anger and in the relief that Hawes was safe. And here with him. But what right did he have? Yes, Hawes had initiated the kiss yesterday, but after all that had transpired between them, after Chris’s betrayal, he didn’t have a right to anything more from Hawes than what he’d given him already. Especially when more was the last thing Chris should be doing.

Synopsis:

These are the rules Hawes Madigan lives by. Rules that make being Fog City’s Prince of Killers bearable. Soon, he’ll be king—of an organization of assassins—and the crown has never felt heavier. Until the mysterious Dante Perry swaggers into his life.

Dante looks like a rock god and carries himself like one too, all loose-limbed and casually confident. He also carries a concealed weapon, a private investigator’s license, and a message for the prince. Someone inside Hawes’s organization is out to kill the future king.

In the chaos that follows the timely warning, Hawes comes to depend on Dante. On his skills as an investigator, on the steadiness he offers, and on their moments alone when Hawes lets Dante take control. As alliances are tested and traitors exposed, Hawes needs Dante at his back and in his bed. But if the PI ever learns Hawes’s darkest secret, Hawes is sure to get a knife to the heart—and a bullet to the brain—instead.

“I don’t want to be in control.” No decisions to make, no kingdom to rule, no bad guys to sort from the good. Tonight, freedom was the most settling thought there was, especially if it involved the man whose body was pressed alongside his.

“Do you trust me?” Dante said.

Hawes half nodded, half nuzzled Dante’s palm.

“Give it to me, then.”

Hawes’s eyes popped open, and an unexpected laugh bubbled out of him. “I’m not giving you control of my family’s empire.”

One corner of Dante’s mouth turned up in a sexy smirk. “I don’t want that either.” With his arm around Hawes’s waist, he shifted them so they were in front of the ladder, Hawes’s back against the rungs, Dante’s body blanketing his. The pressure, front and back, massaged away any lingering soreness from Ray’s hit last night. Not that Hawes would care when Dante’s long, strong fingers were skirting up the side of his face and into his hair, threading through the strands and cradling his scalp.

Hawes couldn’t look away, couldn’t stop his hands from curling into Dante’s gray tank and hauling him closer. “Please.”

“I want control of you.” Dante’s soft lips brushed the sharp right hinge of Hawes’s jaw. “Let me help you.” He moved to the other side. “Let me make you forget for a while.” Then to the crease at the bottom of Hawes’s chin. “Let go for me.”

Yes.

“Almost everything that could go wrong today did.”

The statement begged the question, and Hawes expected the investigator to ask it. Instead, Dante curled his hand around Hawes’s neck and drew him closer. “Well…then let’s make something go right.”

Right was Dante’s mouth on his, deep and searching like their kiss that morning. Right was Dante gently pushing him back into the cushions so he could straddle Hawes’s lap. Right was Hawes’s hands touching every part of Dante he could reach. Over his hard chest and broad shoulders. Along his strong bearded jaw. Through the long strands of hair Hawes released from Dante’s topknot, a curtain of brown waves falling around them.

Hawes could have stayed like that for hours, kissing and touching, except that their rolling hips reminded him of another something that would be oh-so-right. “I owe you a favor,” he mumbled against Dante’s lips. He slipped a hand between them and grasped Dante’s erection through his jeans.

Dante grasped his wrist and pulled Hawes away from his prize, pinning his hand to the couch cushions instead. “This is about what you need tonight.”

“I need this.” Hawes thrust his hips up, his erection through his track pants nudging Dante’s. He didn’t care how needy he seemed, how desperate. If Dante was offering, Hawes wasn’t holding back. He’d walked in here tonight feeling dead inside, but with Dante on his lap, kissing up and down his neck, he was burning up. Alive. He did not want that fire to go out. He clenched Dante’s hand, drawing his smoldering gaze. “I need to taste you,” Hawes said with another roll of his hips. “I want to return the favor.”

One side of Dante’s mouth ticked up. “All right, not gonna argue that offer.” He climbed off Hawes’s lap, pushed the coffee table back with his bare foot, and stripped without preamble or modesty.

Dante standing naked before him gave sexy a whole new meaning.

Teaser Promo - Prince of Killers (Fog City #1) by Layla Reyne

Release Date (Ebook & Print): June 10, 2019

Cover Design: Cate Ashwood Designs
Cover Photography: Wander Aguiar Photography
Publisher: Self-Published
Subgenre: M/M Romantic Suspense

Excerpt:

“How do I trust you won’t kill me in my sleep?” Hawes sniped, more out of sexual frustration than any real fear. He felt more like himself than he had all night. Steady again.

“Same way I’m going to have to trust you not to kill me. You are the Prince of Killers, aren’t you?”

Hawes bit his tongue, fighting the words that wanted to form. Twice in one night. Hawes’s hate for the title crested once more. Hate that he was the prince when it was actually the three of them—him, Holt, and Helena—running the organization. Hate that he’d been forced into the role because he was the oldest, technically, and hate that when someone had to make the tough decisions, it was always him. He’d been the prince since he was sixteen and had given the doctors permission to turn off his parents’ ventilators when neither his grandparents, who were absent at the time, nor his siblings could make the call.

Cold as ice, the stories went.

He hated the killer part just as much. It implied malice, evilness, and cruelty when Hawes had strived to take those variables out of the equation. He knew what he was, what his family did, but there was a place for them, a need for assassins in a world where people didn’t play by the rules and legal justice missed its mark. He’d felt like a killer only twice in his life—that morning in the hospital when he’d become the prince, and that night three years ago when he’d spilled an innocent woman’s blood. A day that had somehow brought into his life the man now stretched out on his couch. And Hawes needed him to think he was the Prince of Killers, for both their sakes.

For now.

Cover Reveal: Prince of Killers (Fog City #1) by Layla Reyne

Cover Design: Cate Ashwood Designs
Cover Photography: Wander Aguiar Photography
Series: Fog City #1
Publisher: Self-Published
Release Date (Ebook & Print): June 10, 2019
Subgenre: M/M Romantic Suspense

Book Synopsis:

There’s no shortage of twists and turns in this new romantic suspense trilogy from Layla Reyne. Prince of Killers is book one of three. Fair warning: buckle up, cliffhangers ahead!

No indiscriminate killing. No collateral damage. No unvetted targets.

For now.

Synopsis:

Everything Dominic Price has worked hard to uphold is about to come crashing down on everything he holds dear.

So much for the quiet life. Just as assistant US attorney and brewery owner Dominic Price is settling into a comfy new chapter with his partner, FBI agent Cameron Byrne, the sudden death of Nic’s father puts their happily-ever-after in jeopardy. Nic immediately suspects foul play, his prime suspect a notorious gangster his father was indebted to—only now the loan shark is out for blood.

Cam has been longing for Nic to finally let him in on this very personal case. But when Nic’s belief that he’s the sole Price heir is upended, the line between personal and professional starts to blur, leaving Cam unsure of where he stands.

Nic is depending on Cam’s kidnap and rescue expertise to save his recently discovered family member before it’s too late. But with a dangerous threat closing in, the ghosts from Nic’s past cast long shadows. Any relationship could crack under the pressure, but for Nic, finding his family might mean losing the love of his life.

Excerpt:

“I’ve got you,” Cam murmured, and dropped a kiss on his temple.

“Just when I thought things were turning our way…”

Nic dropped his head on Cam’s shoulder, and Cam was sure Nic could feel his heart about to beat out of his chest, equal parts worry at the dejection in Nic’s voice, so foreign for him, and adoration, because he let Cam see that, not hiding anything from him, for better or worse.

“One setback.” Cam carded his fingers through Nic’s hair, more of the sexy gray showing every day.

“Three, if we’re counting.”

“Stop counting,” he playfully chided with a swat to Nic’s ass. “Unless it’s your breaths, in which case, take a few extra to settle.”

Nic took the recommended inhales, plus a few more, then rested their foreheads together. “Thank you.”

Cam waited for his eyes to open. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” Finally, a smile, if an exhausted one, right before Nic brushed his lips over Cam’s. It was a slow, gentle kiss, probably the only thing that would be in this already rough-and-tumble day, and Cam let Nic take all that he needed. Cam needed it too—this reminder of their connection, the threads of the rope being reinforced. Cam would hold Nic to his word. Nic hadn’t let the rope go for him when Cam had needed him to hold tight, and Cam wouldn’t let go now either, nor would he let Nic, or anyone else for that matter, cut through it with a Ka-Bar.

About RUNAROUND:

Can two people perpetually moving in opposite directions ever end up in the same place? Or will love just keep giving them the runaround?

Webb Bryant is intimately acquainted with every type of trouble there is. Trouble is all he’s ever known and the only constant in his life.

Webb’s a man constantly on the move. He’s a drifter. A wanderer. He bolts from one bad choice to the next, never able to put enough distance between himself and the ghosts from his past. He lives hard and fast, until everything comes to a screeching halt the moment he lays eyes on Tennyson McKenna. The stunning woman appeared out of nowhere to save the day, and Webb’s been unable to forget her. The leggy, blonde forest ranger might very well be the one person in the world important enough to finally keep him in one place. Only, Ten isn’t impressed by Webb’s knack for finding trouble. And no matter how hard he tries to shake it, he can’t escape his bad habit of falling into the deep end of questionable decisions. When his newest brush with trouble gets Webb in way over his head, Ten jumps after him into the dangerous waters. It’s possible they’re going to sink so fast they both might drown.

Tennyson McKenna makes it a point to be diligently cautious in all aspects of her life. She learned the hard way that leading with your heart instead of your head gets you nowhere.

Ten’s a woman stuck in a frustrating rut. After a string of failed relationships lands her back home, a pit stop to mend her broken heart becomes a hole she’s lost the will to dig herself out of. Coasting through her days was easy until Webb Bryant crash-landed in her path, complete with bullets, blood, and a grin far too charming for his own good. Webb is anything but safe and predictable. He’s everything Ten swore she would never gamble on again, but it’s impossible to ignore the way trouble follows him around like a shadow. And every single time Ten pushes Webb away, she finds herself chasing after him before he’s gone for good. When Webb’s past finally catches up to him, Ten has to decide if she’s brave enough to put her heart on the line for a man who might be gone tomorrow.

EXCERPT:

~TENNYSON~

The first time I laid eyes on Webb Bryant he was frighteningly pale from blood loss and nearly delirious from a raging fever. He’d been sporting a hole in his shoulder from a bullet wound and was terrified his brother was dead somewhere in the vast Wyoming wilderness. It was my job to protect and patrol, one I focused on diligently, but Webb was admittedly distracting. I thought he was going to pass out at my feet, a city boy in way over his head. He didn’t. He never wavered or stumbled in the unfamiliar terrain and unknown situation…not once. He’d impressed me with his resilience and his determination to find out what had happened to his older brother. He’d also caught my attention with those burning blue eyes and shock of blond hair, which gave the misleading impression that the man had a single angelic quality about him. Every long, lean line of Webb Bryant oozed playful mischief and bled the promise of wicked things done in the dark…or during the bright light of day. He didn’t seem like the shy type. Even injured and out of his mind with frantic worry for his older sibling, he was the most charming, most flirtatious man I’d ever met. He sent every defense mechanism I had into overdrive, and there wasn’t a second that slid by where I didn’t remind myself he was not my type in the slightest. Besides, once the Warners and I had both the Bryant brothers straightened out, I figured I wouldn’t have to dodge Webb’s advances ever again. He would ramble on to his next adventure and be out of sight and mind.

I breathed a sigh of relief when he went away. He was too tempting. It was too enticing to give in to every single promise made by his easy smile and glinting eyes. Webb was several years younger than me, a man who was obviously lost and still trying to figure out who he wanted to be when he finally grew up. I was a woman who knew exactly who she was and who she could never be. I was never the type to chase after the bad boys, the wanderers, the reckless. No, I fell for the steadfast, the sturdy, and the solid. I gave my heart to the kind of men who held the world up and buffered everyone around them from the raging storm.

I handed my heart to the oldest Warner brother, Cyrus, when we were just kids. Coming to terms with the fact the stoic and serious cowboy would never feel about me the way I felt about him had been one of the hardest things I’d ever had to do. We shared similar dreams, knowing our lives were so much bigger than the ranches that had our family’s bloodlines entrenched in the soil. We both wanted more than Wyoming, and for a long time, I honestly believed we were on the road out of our tiny town together. It didn’t happen that way. Sure, we both got out in our own time and in our own way, but we both ended up back where we started. Cy was taking his return home in stride. He was far less resentful about his homecoming than I was. In fact, the wedding Webb was dragged out of two short days ago was Cy’s.

I thought it was going to be hard, damn near impossible, to watch the man I’d openly loved from afar for most of my life promise his forever to someone else. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I envisioned. Mostly because Cy was stupid happy with his fiery city girl. He’d never been that happy with me, before we left or when we both admitted defeat and came back home. He’d never loved anyone like he loved his Leo, so the sting of watching him put a ring on someone else’s finger was minimal.

I would gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon before admitting to anyone, especially myself, that since the start of the wedding most of my attention had been on Webb instead of the happy couple. To my surprise, my heart didn’t feel nearly as trampled as I thought it would. It was too busy stupidly racing over the man I believed I wouldn’t see again and knew I should keep my distance from.

The blond man with a penchant for trouble hadn’t stayed gone like I predicted. Nope. He’d shown up right when Cy needed help on the ranch and offered to stick around. Webb claimed he wanted to learn a new skill, seemed he’d taken a shine to the rough way of life in the Wyoming backcountry and wanted to play cowboy for a while. Cy couldn’t say no, and as badly as I wanted to, I couldn’t stay away. I was caught in an endless game of cat and mouse, and some days I wasn’t sure if I was the predator or the prey. I tracked Webb out of the corner of my eye for months. I expected him to up his game and try to lure me to bed, knowing the wedding was going to lower my defenses. Never in a million years would I have predicted he was going to be led away from the festivities in handcuffs.

Paperback Release Day: Better Not Pout by Annabeth Albert

Better Not Pout by Annabeth Albert
Publisher: Carina Press (Harlequin)
Release Date (Print): Tuesday November 27, 2018
Length (Print & Ebook): 288 pages
Subgenre: Contemporary Romance, Male/Male Romance, Holiday Romance, Military Romance

Order at:

Barnes & Noble

Amazon

Book Synopsis:

One hard-nosed military police officer.
One overly enthusiastic elf.
One poorly timed snowstorm.
Is it a recipe for disaster? Or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for holiday romance?

Teddy MacNally loves Christmas and everything that goes along with it. When he plays an elf for his charity’s events, he never expects to be paired with a Scrooge masquerading as Santa Claus. His new mission: make the holiday-hating soldier believe he was born to say ho-ho-ho.

Sergeant Major Nicholas Nowicki doesn’t do Santa, but he’s army to his blood. When his CO asks an unusual favor, Nick of course obliges. The elf to his Kris Kringle? Tempting. Too tempting—Nick’s only in town for another month, and Teddy’s too young, too cheerful and too nice for a one-night stand.

The slow, sexy make-out sessions while Teddy and Nick are alone and snowbound, though, feel like anything but a quick hookup. As a stress-free holiday fling turns into Christmas all year round, Teddy can’t imagine his life without Nick. And Nick’s days on the base may be coming to a close, but he doesn’t plan on leaving anything, or anyone, behind.

Excerpt:

“Food is good.” Nick nodded at his now empty bowl. “You tell your mom thanks for me.”

“She’ll be happy someone enjoyed her cooking—she always says she’s happiest when she’s got a packed table for dinner.” Teddy cleared their trays to the kitchen, then returned to regard Nick carefully. He was confounding and grumpy and far, far too appealing. And he was only in town for another month. It was now or never in terms of forging a friendship or anything else for that matter.

Nothing ventured, nothing lost.

“So what do you want to do now?” he asked Nick, coming to stand in front of him, reveling in the warm blast of the fire. “It’s a bit early for bed, but I’ve got all the various streaming services for the TV or a cupboard of board games or…”

“Or?” Nick looked up at him expectantly, taking the bait beautifully.

“Or, I sit on Santa’s lap and tell you exactly what I want under my tree this year.” Teddy didn’t wait for a response, straddling Nick’s blanket-covered lap in a fluid move. “I figure we can unwrap each other’s packages a little early. What do you say, Saint Nick?”

As a stress-free holiday fling turns into Christmas all year round, Teddy can’t imagine his life without Nick. And Nick’s days on the base may be coming to a close, but he doesn’t plan on leaving anything, or anyone, behind.

Excerpt:

Not that this cranky Santa seemed particularly enamored of him or easy to get to know, but Teddy was determined to give the guy a pleasant day, especially after the disastrous start. Not that he’d call it a disaster—any time he got a glimpse of a muscled ass that spectacular was a win—but Nick’s discomfort had been almost palpable. And yeah, he seemed to be rather attached to his rank and title, but Teddy simply wasn’t that formal. Commander Grace had always insisted that they call her Miriam, and he was on a first name basis with plenty of other military personnel.

“So the first stop is the old Lee barn,” he said. “That’s outside of town, then we’ll work our way back to the resource center with a few other stops.”

“Are people really going to be able to guess one barn from another?” Nick sounded highly skeptical.

“Oh yeah. The Lee barn is part of a historic estate and it’s open for tours during daylight hours.”

“But after dark…” Rhonda laughed knowingly. “The estate is a favorite make-out spot for teenagers, and no amount of chase off from the police can stop them. Everyone will recognize the barn, but no one will want to cop to why. That’s why it’s perfect.”

“I see. Watch the road, MacNally. Posted limit is fifty-five. You don’t need a ticket.”

“We’re good.” Teddy tried not to show his irritation at the rebuke. He supposed he could have compromised and let Nick drive himself to the sites, but as usual Teddy had had a plan and didn’t want to deviate from it, even if it meant putting up with the backseat driving. “And it’s Teddy. There are so many MacNallys in and around Mineral Spirits that you’ll get twenty heads swiveling if you call for MacNally.”
