I decided to read The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily even though I wasn't too impressed with Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. I'm actually glad I waited until after Christmas to read this because it was so damn depressing! I don't really remember Dash and Lily's personalities from the first book, but I'm pretty sure Lily wasn't forlorn and woebegone. Her state of being throughout made the story so heavy and sad it was difficult for me to finish the book. And poor Dash felt hopeless to help her! He spent the entire time desperately attempting to get Lily's Christmas spirit back, which was painful to read at times. I really can't recommend reading this, especially if you're a fan of the first book.

I keep wanting to grab these books b/c I'm convinced they are supposed to represent Dashiell Hammett and Lillian Hellman...but maybe not? Anyway, I'll pass this one b/c it does sound depressing.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the first book is worlds better than this one. But, yes, that is where the names Dash and Lily come from. There was a reference to it at the very end of the first book, but I had to look up who they were since I had no clue.
DeleteWow... I didn't like Lily in the first book AT ALL, but I was hoping that the 2nd book would make it better--- doesn't sound like that happens!! I figured since there's been so much time between the 2 books that they'd have a really good reason for making a sequel-- also doesn't sound like this is the case. I'll definitely be passing on it. I'm glad you didn't read this over Christmas!! Sorry you didn't like it!
