Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.
Wednesday is my absolute favorite day of the week because I get to share the books that I am super excited about and can't wait to read.
Hardcover, 384 pages
Expected publication: September 23rd 2014 by Katherine Tegen Books
Synopsis from Goodreads:
The only thing bigger than the world is fear.
Lucy’s life by the pond has always been full. She has water and friends, laughter and the love of her adoptive mother, Lynn, who has made sure that Lucy’s childhood was very different from her own. Yet it seems Lucy’s future is settled already—a house, a man, children, and a water source—and anything beyond their life by the pond is beyond reach.
When disease burns through their community, the once life-saving water of the pond might be the source of what’s killing them now. Rumors of desalinization plants in California have lingered in Lynn’s mind, and the prospect of a “normal” life for Lucy sets the two of them on an epic journey west to face new dangers: hunger, mountains, deserts, betrayal, and the perils of a world so vast that Lucy fears she could be lost forever, only to disappear in a handful of dust.
In this companion to Not a Drop to Drink, Mindy McGinnis thrillingly combines the heart-swelling hope of a journey, the challenges of establishing your own place in the world, and the gripping physical danger of nature in a futuristic frontier.
I'm not really a huge fan of dystopians, but I did enjoy reading Not A Drop To Drink because it was so different. I'm hoping I like In A Handful Of Dust just as much. This releases on my daughter's birthday. (She'll be 17! OMG I'm feeling old! And my son will turn 20 a few days later... I am officially old.)
What are you waiting on this week?
I really like the first book too, I can't wait to read this one. I have to wait a little closer to read it though, :) Great pick.

DeleteI'm really not a fan of most dystopians, either, which is why I skipped the first book despite a lot of my friends loving it. I might give it a try--I was just burnt out last year on the genre when it came out. I do love this cover. I hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of dystopians either, but I enjoyed Not A Drop To Drink. It's really different. It can also be read as a stand alone since In A Handful of Dust is a companion novel. Thanks for visiting my blog.
