Waiting On Wednesday (531) The Best Men (The Best Men #1) by Sarina Bowen and Lauren Blakely

Expected publication: January 18th 2022 by Troliver Books
Genre: M/M, Romance

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings
that spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.
(WoW was previously hosted by Breaking The Spine.)

This my favorite day of the week because I love sharing and discovering new books.

Synopsis from Goodreads:

In my defense, I was left alone with a bottle of single-malt and a life-long penchant for protecting my baby sister. Still, that's no excuse to send ten drunk-texts on why her hasty marriage would be a mistake.

If only I had just texted my sister. But nope. I accidentally sent the message to her, her groom, and his super hot wingman. I also used the phrase “super hot wingman,” so I’d like to die now.

Instead, I have to plan a wedding with the aforementioned hottie and share a too-small guesthouse in steamy Miami. Three days in the sun with the cocky, charming former athlete who likes to push my buttons? Fine, two can play at that let’s-infuriate-each-other game.

Until Asher ups the stakes with one wildly sexy suggestion. A no-strings fling, then I go back to my single dad life in New York, and he returns to his star-studded one.

Sign me up.

But the more nights I spend with the other best man, the more I want days too, and that just can't happen. Especially when I find out the real reason why…

I want to read this book because... I want to read this book. However, what bothers me is all of the *amazing* 5 star reviews on Goodreads before the book is released. These would be "arc received from the author in exchange for an honest review." Well then, be honest and not give 5 amazing stars just because you received an arc and want to get into the good graces of an author. Does this behavior bother anyone else?

What are you waiting on this week?

  1. Nice pick! That's a new to me one. It's rare that I receive an ARC directly from an author. I was receiving them from one indie author and I do truly enjoy her books and usually end up giving the books 5 stars because I did really enjoy them. Occasionally it might have been 4 but I don't give it 5 stars just because I got an ARC.

Hope you end up loving this one once you get to read it!

    1. Thanks for stopping by today, Jessica. I used to review for NetGalley and Edelweiss, and I was always honest with my reviews. But then a few websites that host tours and reviews for Indie authors got to where you could ONLY post 4 or 5 star reviews - otherwise they would drop you from receiving arcs. That put a bad taste in my mouth, so stopped reviewing at all. I may get back in to reviewing someday.

Poor man! This sounds like it'll be a fun romance to read. I hope you enjoy!

Also, I completely understand your frustration with how the reviews for the book seem to be manipulated. I know I've seen it on more than one occasion when an author gives out several ARCs to readers.

  3. It sounds like it should be good. But I understand where you're coming from. Too many superpositive reviews makes you kinda wary. Hope you enjoy it when you get to it.

  4. I have read books written by Lauren Blakely before and really enjoyed her writing. This book sounds great!

I review for NetGalley, but have slowed down on reviewing for blog tours and independent authors because of the pressure to give high ratings. I am a bit more picky about the books I review now because of that. And when I see a LOT of 5 star reviews for indie's, like you, I'm a bit suspicious. But, for this book you're probably ok, because Lauren Blakely is a good author.
