Blog Tour: Review and Giveaway: Second Chance by Katie Kacvinsky

Paperback, 238 pages

Synopsis From Goodreads:

Can two drastically different, imperfect people be perfect for each other?

It’s been four months since Gray and Dylan have seen each other. Dylan’s been traveling in Europe, while Gray has college, baseball, and a life rooted in one place. Gray’s determined to forget Dylan, the girl he fell in love with in First Comes Love. Besides, how do you make a relationship work with an independent loner?

Just when he decides he’s over her, Dylan makes an unexpected entrance back into his life, hoping their steamy romance can start right where it left off. Gray realizes you can tell your mind to do one thing, but you can’t always convince your heart to follow. Dylan realizes she finally has to make a choice between freedom and her relationship with Gray.

Hilarious, intense, inspiring, and emotional, Second Chance shows that love is a journey, and there are never clear road signs or maps to guide you along. You can only navigate with your heart.

Second Chance is a continuation of Gray and Dylan's beautiful and heartbreaking story. I never expected that I would enjoy a couple so much, but Ms. Kacvinsky really knows how to write for these 2 characters. However, no couple is perfect, and the reader discovers that there are many bumps on the road to happiness.

This was a quick and easy read, and the writing and pacing were perfect. I found myself falling right back into Dylan and Gray's relationship drama. Because you know there was drama going on. How could there not be? Gray is at a place in his life where he has settled in to college and playing baseball. He is happy again and moving on with his life when Dylan shows up out of the blue. Cue the angst and drama! Will Gray end up heartbroken again? Will Dylan give up her travels and settle down? Can she be happy being in one place?

Gray shows how much he has grown and matured, and I thought he was right in wanting to protect himself from more heartbreak. However, it seems that absence really does make the heart grow fonder, and it isn't long before these 2 very different people are inseparable again. But being together and being in love doesn't make things easier. I loved that Gray was willing to let Dylan go and not hold her back from the things she felt she needed to do. At the same time, I felt really bad for him when he realized that, yet again, he is not enough to keep Dylan around.

I must admit that I had a hard time liking Dylan in this book. She really came off as selfish and manipulative, especially where Gray was concerned. I could care more about her if she weren't so indifferent to those around her, especially Gray. She has the ability to immerse herself in their lives, yet hold herself at a distance. And she shows little care or regard for these people once she leaves. I really think she needs to grow up and become aware of her actions.

I really like Katie Kacvinsky's writing style, and I enjoyed reading Second Chance. I highly recommend reading this if you were a fan of the first book, First Comes Love, and you would like to continue reading more about Gray and Dylan. I can't wait to read the final book in this series and hopefully get some closure for this couple - one way or another. I am a romantic at heart, so I can't help but want them to have a happily ever after.

My rating: 4 of 5 Stars
