Fairy Tale Giveaway Hop runs from April 26 to May 1 and features YA books with a Fairy Tale theme. Hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer and vvb32reads.
The Brothers Grimm version of The Frog Prince is probably the best known, though many other versions have been written over the years. In this story, a beautiful princess reluctantly befriends a frog who retrieved her golden ball after it fell into a spring. In the Grimm version, the spell on the frog was broken and he was returned to a handsome Prince when the Princess threw him against the wall (ouch!). In later versions the violent act was taken out and the frog had to spend 3 nights on the Princess's pillow to break the spell. In the more current versions the Princess must kiss the frog to break the spell.
I am giving away one copy (pre-order) of Enchanted by Alethea Kontis which will be released on May 8, 2012.

East of the Sun and West of the Moon is my top favorite because it reminds me of my favorite Roman myth, Eros and Psyche. It is a reminded of the importance of trust in love. Also, I like an independent and strong willed woman who will do anything to save the man she loves.

ReplyDeleteI have to tell you, I am OBSESSED with fairy tales, so what you might have thought was a fairly easy and simple question, left my head swirling. What a TOUGH question! Argh. Sorry. Ummm... my top two would have to be Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Cinderella because it shows us that hard work pays off in the end, and to never stop following your dreams; and sleeping beauty because I love The Waltx song, and the whole idea of True Love's kiss. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteWell.. I hope I win! And thanks for this AWESOME giveaway!! :)

I'm gonna go with the little mermaid. I love the one with the happily every after and not the sad one. Who knew fairy tales had so many versions. I love the little mermaid because I just love anything from the sea.
ReplyDeleteOk, my answer to this question will be very weird, so be warned. I like the elves and the shoemaker. Yeah, I bet not a lot of people chose that one. But I'm a lazy person and the thought that a bunch of small elves could finish the work for me sounds like a miracle.
ReplyDeleteI love The Little Mermaid because she is so brave and is willing to give up everything and everyone to be with her one true love. That and shes a princess who can breath under water lol.
ReplyDeleteHansel and Gretel. Not a widely known one.
ReplyDeleteRobin Hood. I love his sense of responsibility. I love his selflessness. His willingness to fight for people who can't fight for themselves. His desire to stand up for what he knows is right with no thought to personal gain. I think this is an amazing fairy tale. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
Jaime
Girl I have been on a fairy tale kick for awhile now. I saw Enchanted over on First Reads. I read the blurb and went "I'm going to love this book!"
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what my favourite is, there are too many good ones to choose from, along with saying some of the originals are a little twisted. They weren't always about love, romance, and happy endings, many of them were used to teach children a lesson or scare them into it.
I do like re-tellings, because I enjoy seeing changes made in each story to make them unique.
Beauty and the Beast! I love the impossible love ;)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Hansel and Gretel, because there is something really creepy about it. There are not many adaptations, and I have always felt as though Gretel has so much more to tell us.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
